What is Hemp?
“Hemp” or more commonly called “Cannabis Light” or “Legal Cannabis” are terms used to classify varieties of Cannabis that according to European law contain 0.2% or less THC content. Furthermore, this THC percentage doesn’t have psychoactive effects.
However, there is a big difference between Industrial Hemp and Legal Cannabis that is purchased to be smoked. Because Industrial Hemp and Legal Cannabis are used for different purposes, selective breeding has resulted in these two varieties differing in their appearance. Industrial Hemp is necessary to craft crucial resources such as food, ropes, clothing, paper, housing material, and more. Although, its buds do not produce a pleasant smell and are full of seeds. Not really enjoyable to smoke. On the other hand Legal Cannabis is grown for the only purpose of selling the flowers, so we are looking for unique smells and beautiful buds.
With proof of its use recorded throughout history, including the discovery of material made from hemp over 10,000 years ago, many believe that hemp was the first crop to ever be cultivated by mankind. Find out more about Legal Cannabis here: thewolfofcbd.com
What is Cannabis?
If Hemp is a cannabis plant that contains low quantities of THC, then Marijuana is one that includes much more of the intoxicating compound. Furthermore, Marijuana plants can actually contain up to 30% THC, making them very strong.
Marijuana has been used as a drug, perhaps for centuries. Therefore, high levels of THC allow it to cause an intoxicating “high”, including effects such as euphoria and relaxation. It is also used medicinally in several states where it is legal to do so.
Marijuana comes in many forms, including Sativa and Indica varieties. Each strain has different effects, often depending on whether it is sativa-dominant or indica-dominant. Unlike Legal Cannabis, which always comes from the Sativa plant, Marijuana can be a hybrid of anything.
How do I recognize the difference?
First of all, the effects are very different, Marijuana will have psychoactive effects, while Legal Cannabis will give you a mild calming sensation. Second of all Marijuana is illegal in Europe except for in Netherlands, meanwhile Cannabis Light has been legalized all over Europe. However, the biggest difference is aesthetically invisible and it is in its chemical composition, specifically in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is the chemical responsible for marijuana’s psychological effects. An average Marijuana flower contains anywhere from 5-20% THC content. Some premium Marijuana can have up to 25-30% THC. Legal Cannabis, on the other hand, has a max THC level of 0.2% in Europe and 0.6% in Italy, essentially making it impossible to feel any psychoactive effect or get “high.” Therefore, this threshold is heavily regulated in other countries that have legalized Cannabis Light. Hemp also has high cannabidiol (CBD) which offers numerous unique benefits.
